Elie Saab SS17 Haute Couture

Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2017 Haute Couture gave you etheral dreamy gowns.

Basically, this is what you never really want to deal with at an haute couture show: being sharply elbowed in the head (me) or heavily stood on (my seat neighbor) while a wall of photographers goes crazy trying to shoot whomever is seated opposite, only to find that when said photographers step away they’ve been snapping no one remotely well-known.

Elie Saab is king of the jewelled dress: the variations and options of all that glitters endless in his hands. Though he does lean towards the more traditional train of couture thought - because, like Ralph & Russo, he has a strong client following - these had a Park Avenue princess feel to them. The designer cited Egypt as inspiration in his show booklet – full of sketches and mood board imagery. Ladylike, almost everything was belted and a soft colour palette led the way. It’s never the most exciting thing, but it is always a very pretty thing. Saab is a reliable master of all that shimmers and shines.
